Description

This milestone, located 10 meters below the entrance to St. Matthew's Vicarage, dates from the late 19th century. It features an arch-headed stone slab that is overlaid with cast iron. The slab has two projecting faces. The left face reads: "HUDDERSFIELD & NEW HEY ROAD BRANCH, RASTRICK" and lists distances to Rochdale (19¼ miles), Junction (13¼ miles), and Elland (miles). The right face indicates that Brighouse is 1 mile away.
