Description

The Old Town Hall, along with Nos 3 to 9 Old Town Hall Cottages and an attached gateway, is a house dating from the early 17th century, with additional cottages added in the 18th century. The building consists of several residences and is constructed of large dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic.

A notable feature is the Tudor arched gateway with a cyma moulded surround, which leads into an enclosed courtyard that showcases the main house. The house features a tall and impressive gabled two-storey porch, which has a Tudor arched doorway with sunken spandrels adorned with shields and a moulded surround. Above the porch chamber is a ten-light double chamfered mullioned and transomed window. The gable is coped and includes kneelers and ball finials.

A string course runs over the ground floor windows on either side, which are double chamfered mullioned. There is an altered five-light window to the left and a seven-light window with a five-light window above to the right. The rear wing, which is at right angles to the main structure, has two six-light windows and a long sixteen-light window above on the first floor, although some mullions have been removed. This wing also features a coped gable with kneelers and finials, along with other mullioned windows.

The north elevation of the cottages faces the lane and primarily has altered two-light windows on the first floor and inserted doorways. Number 7 is part of the main range and has a gable with a four-light double chamfered mullioned window and a five-light window on the first floor.
