Description

Harley House and the attached Harley Cottage are two early 19th-century houses. They are constructed of watershot masonry with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. Harley House is two and a half storeys high on its east side, while Harley Cottage, which faces south, is three storeys high.

Harley Cottage has a symmetrical facade of three bays, with quoins. The entrance features a classical doorcase with monolithic jambs on a plinth, a moulded edge, a convex cornice, and a pediment. It has wide sash windows with plain stone surrounds and projecting sills; most retain their original sixteen-pane glazing on the first two floors. Smaller windows on the third floor indicate a former warehouse.

Harley House projects forward to the right, and includes a gable facing east with a symmetrical three-bay facade. It has a plinth and a similar doorcase to Harley Cottage, along with wide sash windows in each bay. The coped gable is ornamented with a band treated as a pediment, above which are tall Venetian windows with projecting imposts and keystones.
