Description
Todmorden Vicarage is a vicarage built around 1830, possibly designed by L. Vulliamy. The front is made of ashlar stone, while the sides are constructed from hammer-dressed stone, topped with a slate roof. Originally, the building had two storeys, but a third storey was added in 1859 and has since been reduced back to two. An engraving from around 1840 depicts the building with only two storeys, as it appears today.
The vicarage features a plinth, a string course, and an eaves string with gutter brackets. The Gothic Revival style is evident in its three-bay symmetrical front. The entrance door and windows are topped with 4-centred arched lintels and have Gothic glazed fan-lights. The windows still have 16-pane sashes with hoodmoulds. An ashlar porch with a pierced balustrade adds to the architectural detail. The return walls have two bays of similar windows on each floor, and the rear has two centrally-placed windows for the staircase. The roof is hipped and includes two stacks.
