Description

A mill, engine house, chimney, and weaving shed dating from around 1840 to 1858 (as indicated by a date on the shed). The mill is constructed of thin, hammer-dressed stone with rusticated quoins, topped by a slate roof. It features an ashlar chimney and dressed stone detailing on the engine house and shed, which is characterised by a symmetrical pitched glass roof. The front of the three-story mill presents a three-bay symmetrical facade. It includes a doorway with monolithic jambs and a cornice supported by consoles, and windows with monolithic lintels and sills. The return side has a similar window arrangement, and taking-in bays are set into the third and seventh bays. At the rear of the mill is a tall, tapering chimney that is incorporated into the building's structure, under a hipped roof. The lower engine house has a semi-circular arched window and a hipped roof. The long wall of the shed has a single, semi-circular arched entry with a cat-head and hoist, and seven circular holes.
