Description

The Old Arcade, located at 3 and 5 Old Market, was built around 1895, likely by the architectural firm Leeming and Leeming. It was constructed alongside the Borough Market and shares a similar style. The arcade features shops primarily made of iron and glass, with some timber elements, all designed to be very thin. The entrance pavilions are made of stone and showcase an elaborate small-scale 16th-century French style. The building has three main storeys, plus an additional storey beneath a steep, slated roof, which includes shaped gables, stone dormers, and turrets. The elevation facing Russell Street is less grand. The Arcade extends south of Russell Street, serving as an entrance to the Borough Market.
