Description
The Old Cock Hotel is an early 17th-century, three-storey stone building that has undergone significant alterations. The exterior is now painted and rendered, featuring gables on a stone roof, with some original mullioned windows still visible. A 19th-century Doric entrance portico adds to its character. An addition to the northwest is considered of no interest. Inside, the hotel retains a large early 17th-century room on the second floor, which includes a 10-light mullioned and transomed window facing south. The room features three-quarter height moulded panelling, which has been partly altered, and an elaborate chimney-piece adorned with carving and marquetry decoration, some of which is in a crude perspective style. The ceiling has chamfered beams, although the decoration is later. The upper part of the staircase is from the 17th century, while the lower part dates to the 18th century.
