Description
No. 5 Sal Royd Road is a two-story gritstone house dated 1741 and altered around 1870-80. It has large quoins and a stone slate roof with corniced chimneys. The front elevation features three windows with squared surrounds and ornately leaded sashes from the late 19th century. A gabled stone porch was added in the 19th century, sheltering a squared jamb doorway with a slightly four-centred arch. A plaque above the doorway bears the initials “B over W R” and the date 1741. A single-story east wing extends from the main house. The interior features good late 19th-century plasterwork and cast iron balusters on the staircase, supplied by the Low Moor Company.
