Description

High Bracken Hill Farmhouse is a house that was built in 1691, as indicated by the initials and date "WMW 1691." The front of the house was refronted and an added porch was constructed in the early 19th century. The building is made of rubble brought to course and rendered at the front, with dressed quoins and a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and features a two-cell central lobby-entry plan.

The exterior includes double-chamfered mullioned windows, with a six-light window and a four-light window on either side of a flat-roofed porch that has a doorway with an architrave and cornice. On the first floor, there are two four-light windows. To the right, there is a corner doorway with a re-used date stone above it. The house has gutter brackets, coped gables with kneelers, and a central chimney with a cyma-moulded cornice. The rear of the house has three double-chamfered mullioned windows on the ground floor, consisting of two two-light windows flanking a three-light window, which has a two-light window above it, likely for lighting the original stair. The right return features a three-light window that lacks a mullion and has an attached outshut at right angles.

Inside, the house has scarf-jointed spine beams and evidence of a former bressumer. The parlour contains a spine beam with a deep stop-chamfer, and the rear dairy features stone shelves.
