Description
Lumb Mill House is a house built in 1696, constructed from rubble with a stone slate roof and featuring three chimneys. It has two storeys and a three-unit plan, with a central outshut at the front facing the road that contains the dated doorway. This doorway has an elegant moulding that extends into the lintel, inscribed with "IW 1696". Above the doorway is a two-light double chamfered window, and to the right of this is a three-light window of the same style. At the rear, a string course creates hoodmoulds over double chamfered stone mullion windows, which include configurations of three, six (with a king mullion), and four lights; above these are additional windows of three lights, one two-light chamfered window, and two more three-light windows that are related in style. There is a chamfered doorway in the first bay. Inside, the house features a large segmental arched chamfered fireplace and two triangular-headed stone doorways, one leading to the porch.
