Description

Low Sanfitt is a house dated 1671, with the initials "WD" inscribed. It is constructed from rubble brought to course and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and includes a two-light flat-faced mullioned window with plain stone surrounds to the left of the doorway, which has composite jambs and a monolithic lintel that bears the date. Above, on the first floor, there is a three-light double-chamfered mullioned window that lacks its mullions. The rear of the house has a late 18th-century lean-to that contains a two-light flat-faced mullioned window with an inner chamfer and a doorway with monolithic jambs. There is also a reused double-chamfered mullioned window from a now-demolished dairy. A single stack is located on the ridge at the junction with a 19th-century addition.

Inside, the main room features a baffle-entry layout with stop-chamfered floor joists and spine beams that have scarf joints, indicating the presence of a former bressumer and fire-hood. The extensions to the spine beams are supported on a wooden corbel above a late 18th-century fireplace with monolithic jambs. The rear room, located in an outshut, includes a stone staircase. To the left of the house is an 18th-century barn that has been converted for additional accommodation, while to the right is a late 19th-century addition, neither of which is of particular interest.
