Description
Highfield House is a house dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, built of ashlar with a slate roof. It has two storeys, a basement, and an attic, featuring a two-room front and a double-depth layout. The building has a plinth, and the east front displays rusticated quoins and a moulded eaves cornice. There are three bays of sashed windows with raised plain stone surrounds; the first bay has tripartite sashes, while the second and third bays contain 25-paned windows. Beneath the window in the third bay is a basement window. The rear of the house features an arched stair window with Gothic glazing, and there is an oculus with a central mullion in the attic. The gable is coped with kneelers, and the front has a hipped roof with two lateral stacks on each side. The left-hand return wall is rendered and includes a doorway with monolithic jambs, a square light above, and a cross-glazed, 12-paned sashed window on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
