505-513, GREAT HORTON ROAD

Nos 505 to 513 on Great Horton Road are early cottages that retain many of their main features, although they were altered in the mid 18th century. The buildings are constructed with large sandstone "bricks" and have stone slate roofs, along with corniced chimneys. The first floor features two light square mullion windows. The ground floor has shop fronts. The rear part of No 509 includes roughly dressed quoins and two light square mullion windows. No 513 projects slightly and has flush quoins, a saddlestone, and shaped kneelers at the gable end. It also has a two light square mullion first floor window and a small mid 19th century shop front with a cornice over the fascia. The rear windows are square mullioned. These cottages are included for their group value.
