Description
Nos 15 and 17 Canal Road is a prominent warehouse building located in a central area, constructed around 1870. It features a large multi-windowed design with five storeys and a basement, situated on a wedge-shaped site at the junction with Mill Street. The building is made of sandstone "brick" above a ground floor finished with corniced ashlars. It has sill bands, a bracket cornice over the third floor, and a shallow crowning cornice. The corner of the building is sharply levelled with a pedimented portal, and thin pilaster strips frame the corner and the adjacent bay on each front. There are long ranges of windows, which are segmental arched on the ground and first floors, with flat ashlar lintels above the remaining windows. The doorway on Canal Road is off centre and features a pediment set above the ground floor cornice, with pilaster strips flanking this bay up to the crowning cornice.
