Description
Bolton House, located at No 18 on Bolton Road, is a late 18th-century building that was altered in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of painted rendered sandstone that resembles brick and features quoins, pilasters, and a plat band above the ground floor. The building has a gable end slate roof with stone slates on the rear, and it is topped with parapet coping at the gables and flanking chimneys.
The front of the building is symmetrical with five windows, where the first-floor windows have architrave surrounds, and the central window is slightly set forward. The ground floor windows have been altered and feature late 19th-century glazing within plain surrounds. The entrance has a plain square stone door surround. There is also a lean-to angled wing that includes an early 19th-century sash window on the first floor, along with a late 19th-century bar window and doorway. The rear elevation showcases exposed stonework, with a central stair break that includes a two-light square mullioned and double transomed window, and a three-light square mullioned window to the left.
