Description

No. 10 Hensman's Hill is a warehouse built around 1870, now functioning as a shop. The building features a combination of limestone ashlar, brick, and render, with a roof that is not visible. It has a double-depth plan, is two storeys tall, and includes a basement with a seven-window range. The front façade is regularly designed with an ashlar finish and features a semicircular-arched arcade on a plinth that rises to the left due to the sloping ground. The ground floor has a crocket impost band and hoodmould, while the first-floor windows are adorned with an impost band and raised surrounds, topped by a coped parapet. The left-hand window is rendered, and the ground-floor window cills are also beneath this. The building has metal-framed windows with glazing bars. The left-hand brick return has two shallow gables and large metal-framed windows between the floors, along with a continuous moulded sill and a coped parapet. Inside, there is a central spine window and a right-hand dogleg stair. Notably, the building demonstrates an advanced use of glazing for its time.
