Description

This is a terrace of three houses, now shops, located on Regent Street in Clifton, Bristol, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed of limestone ashlar, with party wall stacks and a pantile mansard roof. They follow a double-depth plan, each being three storeys high with an attic, and originally had a two-window frontage. The ground floors have been altered significantly. Number 16 has an early 20th-century public house front featuring outer doorways with rusticated jambs and a central, flush, canted bay with glazing bars. Number 18 exhibits a late 19th-century bank front with four semicircular arches, parabolic coved surrounds, panelled jambs containing central roundels, a two-leaf six-panel door, and paired consoles to the fascia. Number 20 has a shop front with a left-hand doorway. Pilasters are positioned above overlapping cornices, topped by a parapet. The original windows are 6/6-pane sashes, and there are dormers. Bowed cast-iron basket balconies are present at Number 20. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected. The buildings are recognised for their group value.
