Description

This is a nearly symmetrical row of ten two-storey sandstone houses, numbered 16 to 28, located on Edmund Street and dating to around 1840. The row is characterised by a central three-window break shared between numbers 20 and 22, featuring chamfered quoins and a bed mould to the frieze, with modillion brackets supporting a projecting eaves cornice and a blocking course above the break. The roofs are covered with stone slates, and the chimneys are corniced. Each house originally had two windows, with plain lintels above. Numbers 16 and 28 feature two-light square mullioned windows. A segmental arched carriageway is centrally positioned within the break, with quoins, imposts, and long and short voussoirs, all chamfered. The house doors have slightly battered architrave surrounds and elongated carved consoles supporting projecting cornices.
