Description

Ashgrove is a terrace of twelve houses, numbered 1 to 13 (odd), built around 1860 to 1870. The design incorporates simplified Jacobean details. The houses are constructed of sandstone and feature Dutch gables, with a particularly large pair in the centre and over the end breaks. These prominent gabled bays have large, mullioned windows projecting from the ground floor. Smaller gables are positioned above the first-floor windows of the houses in between. The windows are mullioned casements with transoms, and they have eared surrounds. The doorways are paired or single and are framed by faceted-block surrounds and cornices supported on consoles. The buildings are included on the list for their contribution to group value.
