Description
This is a terrace of six houses, numbers 14 to 26 Hallfield Road, built around 1855 to 1860. They are a continuation of the adjacent terrace and share a similar design. The houses are constructed of sandstone, which is coloured to resemble brick, and are stepped down the hillside in pairs. A distinctive swept sill band runs along the front, and the eaves cornices feature bed moulds, paired concave brackets, and large, fluted console brackets shaped as acanthus leaves, marking the changes in level. Each house has two or three windows. The first floor windows are single-light sash windows with reveals extending down to the sill band. The ground floor windows are square, mullioned windows of two lights. The doorways are pilastered and feature modified Corinthian capitals and entablatures above. Numbers 14 and 16 share a grouped doorway with a central passageway, mirroring the design of numbers 8 and 10 in the adjacent terrace. The buildings are listed for their contribution to the wider group.
