Description
St Peter's Chaplaincy is a town house dating from around 1800, similar in style to No 212 Barkerend Road. It stands two storeys high and features narrow stone "bricks". The building has an ashlar plinth, a crisply cut moulded cornice, and a blocking course. Its stone slate roof has coped gable ends and corniced flanking chimneys. The front has five segmental windows, with sashes set in shallow reveals and block sills. The central first-floor window is particularly notable, featuring an architrave surround, a frieze with fluted triglyphs, and a moulded cornice above. The sill has a moulded edge supported by fluted block consoles. The entrance boasts a slender monolith Tuscan column doorway with a broken entablature and a delicate, open, moulded pediment, along with a fluted doorhead and a semi-circular fanlight. The interior has been altered in the 19th century but still retains an open string staircase with scrolled and S pattern wrought iron bannisters and a moulded swept handrail. The rear elevation features glazing bar sashes and a large round-headed stair light.
