Description

Moorlands Farmhouse and Cottage date from the 17th and 18th/19th centuries, located off Green End Road, East Morton. The house is dated '1670 HT'. They are constructed of coursed stone with a stone slate roof.

The farmhouse has a baffle-entry plan and stands two storeys high with three windows on each floor. It features double-chamfered mullion windows throughout. A door to the right now serves as a window, with a chamfered, quoined surround and a dated lintel. To the left of this are a two-light and a three-light window. A 20th-century door is set within a plain stone surround with interrupted jambs, and a six-light window is partly obscured by a 20th-century addition. Above, there are two five-light windows and a two-light window where the mullions have been removed. There are stacks on the right gable and the centre of the ridge.

The attached cottage, to the right, is two storeys and has a basement; it is taller than the farmhouse and has one window per floor. It has quoins. A plain stone surround marks the doorway to the basement, and one three-light, flat-faced mullion window with a raised cill is present to both the ground and first floors. It has moulded kneelers and coping, with an end stack on the right side.

The rear of the farmhouse includes a blocked doorway on the right side and double-chamfered mullion windows on the ground floor, featuring a three-light window (with removed mullions), a two-light window, and a three-light window. Above, there are two three-light windows (again, with removed mullions).
