Description
Town Bottom Farmhouse is a 16th-century timber-framed building that has been cased in gritstone in the 17th century and altered, with some parts refaced around 1800. The farmhouse has a long range that runs at a right angle to the road and is two stories high, constructed of gritstone and thin sandstone "bricks," with some sections dry walled. The roof is made of stone slate and features saddlestones, including at the east end where the barn is located. The farmhouse has corniced chimneys and three-light square mullion windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there are three-light chamfered mullion windows and a two-light square mullion window that has been inserted to the right. The barn projects to the south at the east end. At the rear of the farmhouse, there are two windows with wooden lintels but later square mullions, along with drip moulds above. Additional windows have quoined surrounds and drip moulds. Inside, the timber frame's wall posts are encased in plaster, and some tie beams of the roof trusses are partly exposed.
