Description

Top o'th' Bank Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, which has been altered and extended. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with quoins, although the south and west sides are rendered and the north side is whitewashed. The roof is made of stone slate, and there are external chimney stacks on the north side and the west gable walls. The building consists of two units, not including the extension, and is two storeys high.

On the north side, there is an inserted doorway to the right of the chimney stack. To the right of the door, on each floor, there is a recessed 3-light window with a hoodmould; the upper window features ovolo and fillet moulded mullions, while the lower window has been converted to a casement. The left gable wall has a similar 4-light mullioned window on each floor. On the right side, there is a large chimney stack with offsets, and at the first floor, to the left of this stack, there is a round-headed light and to the right, a 2-light mullioned window. The rear of the farmhouse is largely obscured by a large 19th-century extension, which is of little architectural interest.

Inside, the farmhouse has been altered but still contains three large beams with cyma-stopped chamfers, one of which has a stone corbel. At the first floor, the end of a large cambered tie-beam on a stone corbel is visible.
