Description
Toll Bar Cottage is an early 19th-century tollhouse that has been converted into a house. It is constructed from sandstone blocks and features a stone slate roof that projects over the north gable, which has a ridge chimney stack. The gable facing the road has two bays and two storeys, displaying some Gothic and Tudor details. On this gable, there is a blocked doorway to the left, a central 4-pane sash window, and above it, a large blind window with a two-centred arch, filled with a stone slab and framed by a plain surround and hoodmould. The left side wall, which faces Simonstone Lane, has two windows on each floor, all of which are 4-pane sashes with hoodmoulds. The right side wall features a large single-storey gabled porch, with a window to the left that matches the others.
