Description
Town End Farmhouse is a farmhouse from the early 19th century, with origins dating back to the 17th century. It is constructed from slobbered rubble with stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The building is two stories tall and has a double fronted design. The central entrance is framed by a projecting plain surround made of milled sandstone, leading to a four-panel door, with the upper two panels being glazed and featuring segmental-arched heads.
There are four windows, each with three lights, which have slightly projecting plain surrounds made of milled stone and projecting sills. The windows have fixed outer lights and late 19th-century sashes without glazing bars. The gables are topped with stone coping and shaped kneelers, and there are gable-end ridge stacks, including a brick stack on the right side. The right-hand return indicates that the roof has been raised at some point. The left gable end weather wall extends slightly beyond the coping.
At the rear, there is scattered fenestration that includes three double-chamfered two-light windows, which have had their mullions cut out, and one three-light double-chamfered window with cavetto mullions and square heads. To the right of the house, there is a former well cover made of rock-faced stone, which features a reused datestone inscribed with "1608 AMF" and a carved halberd. Behind the house, a former privy contains a reused chamfered doorway with recessed spandrels and a datestone inscribed with "1688 M," along with a carved halberd and flower head.
