Description

Ellis Cottage and Ellis House is a house, now divided into two homes, dating from 1696. It is built of slobbered rubble with a stone slate roof. The structure features a long range with a short cross wing to the left. The cross wing has two small chamfered lights at ground level and a 19th-century square fixed light above, along with a large dovecote in the gable. There is a modern doorway and door on the return side.

The main range has two bays that are set back, featuring a slightly chamfered doorway, which may be recent or completely replaced, and a similar three-light window. Above these are sash windows with glazing bars. Two additional bays step forward and include another chamfered doorway, with a slightly pointed lintel that has been raised, inscribed with the initials E 16 WA 96. Above this doorway is a small chamfered light, and beside it is a sash window with glazing bars, similar to two on the first floor. There is also a large fixed window on the right side of the ground floor. The right return wall features a massive external chimney stack.

Inside Ellis Cottage, opposite the inscribed doorway to Ellis House, there is a very large elliptical arched fireplace with a shield on the lintel, carved with the same initials and the date 1702.
