Description

Cote Farmhouse, originally a late 17th-century farmhouse, has been altered and extended in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The farmhouse is now used as an outbuilding. The building is constructed from sandstone "bricks" and coursed gritstone. The western wing is the oldest part and contains a two-light window with a former five-light chamfered mullion on the first floor, and square mullions on the ground floor. It has coped gable ends to a stone slate roof with kneelers. The east-west range, which incorporates the barn, has two and three-light square mullion windows and plain doorways set in squared jambs. It also has a stone slate roof. The eastern wing is the more recent farmhouse, dating to the late 18th century, featuring flush quoins and three-light square mullion windows within flush squared frames. The farmstead demonstrates the evolution of a traditional farm.
