Description
Townhead Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with some alterations made in the early 20th century. It is constructed of thin coursed rubble with dressed quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a two-cell, end baffle-entry plan, with a single-storey outshut at the rear of the second cell.
On the first floor, there are three windows. To the left, there is a six-light double-chamfered mullioned window with a hoodmould that has straight returns. Next to it is a two-light, early 20th-century flat-faced mullioned window with four-paned sashes. The doorway on the right-hand end has composite jambs and a broad chamfered surround. The first floor also features two windows with chamfered surrounds and an additional stack on the right-hand ridge. Another stack is located on the left, extruded from the gable, and is made of ashlar with a cyma-moulded cornice. At the rear, there is a small chamfered window behind the first cell.
Inside, the westernmost room contains a fine Tudor-arched fireplace with carved spandrels and a chamfered surround.
