Description
This is a funerary monument dedicated to John Shortridge, a steel manufacturer who lived from 1803 to 1869. Erected in 1869, the memorial is a granite obelisk approximately 5 meters high, set on a square sandstone pedestal that features a chamfered plinth and a moulded cornice. The inscription on the monument is now illegible. The base of the monument is square and includes elaborate fluted volutes at the corners, as well as a wreathed roundel on each side. It stands on a square foundation stone and is enclosed by a square kerb, which originally had a railing. The monument is located 15 meters south-west of Christ Church on Gleadless Road in Sheffield.
