Description
The West Block at Hollis Hospital, now an old people's home, was built in 1903 by Howard C Clarke. It features red brick construction with a coursed squared stone plinth, rendered panels, and decorative timber framing with rendered nogging. The building has a hipped plain tile roof, which includes two brick ridge stacks with corbelled lozenge-shaped double flues, and is designed in the Vernacular Revival style. It is a single-storey structure with a four-window range, where most windows are glazing bar sashes. In the center, there is a half-glazed door, flanked on the left by a small glazing bar window. To the right, there are square wooden bay windows with timber-framed gables, each containing three lights. The left side has a recessed inscribed slate plaque, accompanied by single segment-headed eight-pane sashes. The rear of the building has similar window arrangements, featuring a central two-light casement. The interior was not inspected. The hospital was originally established by Thomas Hollis in 1703.
