Description
The East Block at Hollis Hospital, now an old people's home, was built in 1903 by Howard C Clarke. It is constructed of red brick with a coursed squared stone plinth, rendered panels, and decorative timber framing with rendered nogging. The building features a hipped plain tile roof with two brick ridge stacks that have corbelled lozenge-shaped double flues. Designed in the Vernacular Revival style, it is a single storey structure with a four-window range. The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes. In the center, there is a half-glazed door flanked on the right by a small glazing bar window. To the right, there are square wooden bay windows with timber-framed gables, each containing three lights. The right return has a recessed inscribed slate plaque dated 1703, flanked by single segment-headed eight-pane sashes. The rear of the building has similar window arrangements, with a central two-light casement. The interior has not been inspected. The hospital was established by Thomas Hollis in 1703.
