Description
Bents Green House, now divided into flats, was built in 1828 with additions made in 1874 and 20th-century alterations. It was constructed for Thomas Makinson and features coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and a rendered rear, topped with a stone slate roof and two coped stone gable stacks. The house has quoins and coped gables, standing three storeys tall with a four-window range. The ground floor showcases a round-arched arcade with dated keystones, flanked by four paired plain sash windows and four smaller similar windows above, all featuring multi-keystone lintels. There are three 3-light casements with fanlights, and a late 19th-century porch with a coped gable and recessed glazed door is located in the second bay. The right side has a small gabled single-storey addition with a casement, while the left side has stone external steps leading to a first-floor reeded stone doorcase with a keystone and round-headed door, along with a 20th-century casement and two additional 20th-century 2-light casements above. The interior was not inspected. The property is enclosed by a coursed squared stone boundary wall with half-round coping and four lozenge-shaped stone gate piers topped with pyramidal caps. It was later owned by the Mountford family and Earl Fitzwilliam.
