Description
This electric transformer, located at the junction with High Cliffe Road on Greystones Road in Sheffield, dates from around 1900. It is made of cast iron and was produced by the British Electric Transformer Company of Hayes, Middlesex. The transformer features a circular column that is approximately 1 meter in diameter and 2.5 meters high, adorned with vertical ribs and horizontal bands. It has a panelled frieze and a cornice decorated with egg-and-dart ornamentation. The top is shallowly conical and capped with a ball finial. There are two pairs of doors on opposite sides, with the upper pairs being smaller. This structure is an early example of electricity distribution equipment.
