Description

Whirlow Hall Farm Cottage, along with its attached cowshed, cruck barn, and bull pen, dates from the early to late 18th century, with some alterations and additions made in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and the house features a stone slate roof with two coped gable stacks. The other structures also have stone slate roofs, while the cruck barn has a Welsh slate roof.

The exterior of the house includes quoins and a coped gable, standing three storeys high with two windows. There are two 20th-century two-light casements on the ground floor, with two smaller casements above. A 20th-century lean-to porch is located to the right, accompanied by a two-light casement on the left and a single-light casement on the right. To the right of the house is a single-storey lean-to addition with one window. The rear of the house features two two-light windows with chamfered mullions and a small window with a chamfered surround on the left.

The cowshed, positioned at right angles to the house, has a central board door, with a smaller door to the left and a larger stable door to the right, both featuring wooden lintels. The cruck barn to the right has a central blocked doorway with a chamfered stone surround, a wide doorway with a stone lintel to the left, and a doorway with a plain stone surround to the right. The right gable of the barn includes a pitching eye. Inside, there is a reused pair of crucks with collars, tie beams, and a ridge. The bull pen, located to the right, has a cart opening to the left and a stable door to the right, both with wooden lintels, and the gable has two blocked openings.
