Description
The stable block, now serving as a Girl Guide headquarters, is located at Whiteley Wood Hall and includes an attached garden wall and gateway. It dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the mid and late 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared stone and features hipped artificial stone slate roofs with two ridge stacks. The garden wall is made of brick with stone facing, and the structure has quoins and dentilled eaves, forming a U-plan around a central yard.
The main block is two storeys high and has a five-window range. On the left side, there are three two-light glazing bar casements. To the right, there is a slightly projecting block with two reglazed single casements on a sillband. The ground floor includes four blocked segment-headed carriage openings, with the leftmost featuring a door and sidelights. To the right of this, there is a double plain sash window, followed by a part-glazed door with a sidelight, and then a square glazing bar casement.
The rear of the building has three two-light flush mullioned windows. To the right, there is a single-storey range with three segment-headed blocked stable openings. This single-storey right range also has a blocked opening flanked on the left by a double door and on the right by a blocked window. Further to the right is a stable door, followed by a 20th-century door and window leading to a shop. The left wing features three tall round-headed recesses, with a large central stable door flanked by single two-light casements.
The attached garden wall at the rear encloses a rectangular garden measuring approximately 100 by 70 metres and has ramped slab coping. The north side of the wall includes pilasters and a moulded stone doorcase from the early 18th century, likely reused, which features a keystone, scroll brackets, and a segmental pediment.
