Description
The north-west block at Hollis Hospital, now an old people's home, was built in 1903 by Howard C Clarke. It is constructed of red brick, featuring a coursed squared stone plinth, rendered panels, and sham timber framing with rendered nogging. The building has a half hipped plain tile roof, which includes weatherboard gablets and a brick ridge stack with corbelled lozenge-shaped double flues. Designed in the Vernacular Revival style, it is a single storey structure with one window range. The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes. The front features a large canted wooden bay window with a pair of small 8-pane sashes flanked by larger 16-pane sashes, while each return has a segment-arched sash. The rear includes a glazed door flanked by windows. The interior has not been inspected. The hospital was originally established by Thomas Hollis in 1703.
