Description
The Sadacca Social Centre, originally a public hall, was built in 1853 for J Shortridge. It is constructed of brick with an ashlar front and dressings, featuring a slate-hung right gable and a slate roof. The building has two large corniced gable stacks and three smaller gable stacks. Architectural details include a plinth, quoins, a second-floor string course, a sill band, and a deep moulded modillion wooden eaves cornice. Above the cornice, there are two corniced square pedestals topped with urns.
The structure stands three storeys tall plus attics and has a three-window range. The first floor is rusticated and features three round-arched recesses with voussoirs and ornamented keystones, each containing a Venetian window. There is a balcony supported by stone brackets and piers, with a cast-iron balustrade. Above this, three cross casements with moulded surrounds and segmental pediments are present, along with two wooden gabled dormers.
The heavily rusticated ground floor has three elliptical arched entrances with voussoirs, with the central entrance blocked. The flanking entrances feature double doors with round-arched glazed panels and traceried fanlights. A datestone inscribed "J Shortridge 1853" is also visible. The interior has not been inspected.
