Description

The remains of Sheffield Castle are located beneath Castle Market and date from the 13th and 14th centuries. They were excavated in 1927 and again from 1958 to 1960. The site features the lower part of an ashlar faced gateway, bastion towers, a drawbridge pit, and a pier. Access to the site was not possible at the time of the survey due to flooding.
