Description
The National Westminster Bank, located at Nos. 122 and 126 Wicker in Sheffield, is a bank and adjoining house dating from 1894, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, featuring roofs that are not visible. It has two and three storeys with a total of nine windows across its façade.
The bank section, situated on the left, includes an ashlar plinth and rusticated quoins, a deep eaves cornice, and a panelled coped parapet topped with a pedestal and ball finial. It has four plain sash windows with stone surrounds and a sillband. Below these windows, there is a moulded doorcase with a keystone and segmental pediment, and above it, a cartouche with a foliage surround. The entrance features a panelled door with an overlight.
To the right, the bank has three larger windows adorned with pulvinated friezes and cornices. The house section, located on the right, has a first-floor band and an eaves cornice, along with a plain parapet that also has a pedestal and ball finial. It features a triple plain sash window with a shallow pediment above the central light, and to the left, there are two plain sashes with cornices. Above these, there are four plain sashes with large brackets supporting the sills, all of which have stone surrounds. The ground floor includes a central doorway flanked by single shop windows beneath a full-width fascia, all of which are late 20th-century additions. The interior has not been inspected.
