Description

Venture Works is a workshop and office block built in the early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid and late 19th century. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick and features slate roofs with three brick ridge stacks. It stands three storeys tall and has a window arrangement of four by nine. The front facade includes a plinth, quoins, and dentilled wooden eaves. The windows are arranged in narrow vertical panels, with square panels between the ground floor and first floor windows. A framed stucco panel displaying the legend "Herbert M Slater Ltd." is located between the first and second floor windows. The first floor features four 12-pane sash windows, with the two on the right having plain glass lower lights. Above are three plain sashes and one 9-pane sash. The ground floor has a central round-arched wooden doorcase with pilasters and a cornice, leading to a panelled door with a fanlight. On either side of the door are two barred plain sash windows. The left gable displays two enamel signs reading "Slaters" and "Venture Works." On the second floor, there are four 2-light metal casements. The left side of the building has a workshop with nine small 2-light casements on both the ground and first floors, and ten 2-light metal casements on the second floor. The interior has not been inspected.
