Description

Workshops were built in the mid-19th century, with later alterations in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and slate roofs, featuring four ridge stacks and a single gable stack.

The exterior has sillbands to each floor and a single coped gable. It includes keystones to both the ground floor and first floor openings. The building is three storeys high and has a 15-window by 11-window facade, arranged in an L-shape. The Green Lane frontage features a round-headed glazing bar sash window flanked to the left by two similar windows and to the right by four more. To the right is an entrance bay with a round-headed sash window and a paired glazing bar casement with a central shaft. Above, the same window arrangement is repeated with three-light wooden casements. On the ground floor, the entrance bay has a painted ashlar doorcase with a round-headed opening and cornice, flanked to the left by five shuttered and screened windows and to the right by four more. A frieze inscribed "Wharncliffe Works" is present. A segment arched carriage opening is flanked to the left by a round-arched door with an overlight. To the right is a gable of an adjoining block with two large glazing bar casements, above which is a Venetian window with wooden cross casements and brick flat arches. The ground floor of this section contains two large three-light casements and below them, two cellar openings. The return side, facing Cornish Street, has glazing bar windows on each floor. The ground floor windows are shuttered, and there is a doorway in bay four. The interior of the building was not inspected.
