Description
Windhill Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered over time. It is constructed of coursed, squared gritstone and has a stone slate roof. The building features a two-room plan, with access from a later single-storey wing at the center rear. It stands two storeys high and has two windows on the first floor. Evidence of rebuilding is visible in the central ragged joint on the left, along with a plinth and large quoins, and on the right, there is irregular walling with disturbed masonry that likely indicates the former position of a baffle-entry doorway. The windows are modern wood casements, with a heightened double-chamfered surround for a three-light window on the left. On the right, there is a three-light square-faced recessed mullion window, with a similar window above that has flush mullions. Above the left window, there is a smaller two-light double-chamfered mullion window that was originally three lights. The farmhouse features a shouldered and corniced ashlar ridge stack, along with another corniced end stack on the right. Inside, there is a central king-post roof truss with moulded principal rafters, which likely reuse older timbers.
