Description
The Old Bank House and attached railings is a house, now used as offices, built in 1728 and restored in 1978 for Nicholas Broadbent. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with three gable stacks. It has a plinth, giant pilasters, with the central pair being rusticated, as well as first and second floor bands, a cornice, and a ramped coped parapet. The house is three storeys high and has a five-window range with a double range plan. The windows are 12-pane sashes with plain stone surrounds. The central window features an eared and shouldered surround with a multiple keystone, while above it has a moulded surround, sill, and plain apron. The central doorcase is simple, with a pediment on scroll brackets, a six-panel door, and a fanlight. To the right of the door, there are two windows, and to the left, there is a single window followed by a plain square-headed carriage opening. The right return has two 12-pane sashes on the upper floors and a single one below. Inside, there is a ground floor room with simple fielded panelling and a corniced fireplace with a basket grate. In 1771, a bank was opened here by Thomas Broadbent, the grandson of the builder.
