Boundary walls and gates at Carfield Schools, enclosing a sloping rectangular site. 1903. Probably by Joseph Norton for the Norton School Board. Rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and wrought-iron gates. Stepped triangular stone coping. Argyle Road range, approx 3m high and 250m long, has 2 small gateways with stone lintels, for boys and girls respectively, with wrought-iron gates and stone stairs. Argyle Close range, approx 100m long, has to left a pair of square stone gate piers with chamfered caps and a double gate. To right, beyond the caretaker's house, 2 gateways, the left one with double gates. Plain walls on the other sides. Included for group value.
