Description
The boundary walls and gates at Carfield Schools were built in 1903, likely designed by Joseph Norton for the Norton School Board. They enclose a sloping rectangular site and are constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and wrought-iron gates. The walls feature a stepped triangular stone coping. The section along Argyle Road is approximately 3 meters high and 250 meters long, containing two small gateways with stone lintels for boys and girls, each with wrought-iron gates and stone stairs. The Argyle Close range is about 100 meters long and includes a pair of square stone gate piers with chamfered caps and a double gate on the left. To the right, beyond the caretaker's house, there are two gateways, with the left one featuring double gates. The walls on the other sides are plain. This structure is included for its group value.
