Description

High Hazels House, located at Tinsley Park Golf Club, is a house that has been converted into a golf club. It was built in the mid-19th century, with some additions made in the late 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. The structure is made of ashlar and brick, featuring ashlar dressings and hipped slate roofs with three grouped coped ridge stacks and a single side wall stack. It is designed in the Italianate style.

The exterior includes a plinth, chamfered quoins, first floor and sill bands, and modillion eaves. The building has two storeys and a three by four window arrangement. The entrance front features a projecting hipped center with a plain sash window that has a shouldered head, cornice, and a balustraded apron. Below this is a three-bay round-headed loggia that covers a blind arcade, which has a central fielded panelled double door with a fanlight.

To the left, there is a three-stage square tower with string courses, modillion eaves, and a pyramidal roof topped with a wind vane. This tower has a round-headed plain sash window on the first floor and, above, double round-headed openings with hoodmoulds and pseudo balconies on each side. A single sash window is located in the ground floor return angle. To the right, there are two plain sash windows on each floor; the upper ones have eared and shouldered surrounds, while the lower ones feature cornices.

The left return, which faces the park, has an off-centre two-storey canted bay window with three plain sash windows on each floor, the upper ones having moulded surrounds and the lower ones with cornices. To the left of the bay, there are two plain sash windows on each floor, and to the right, there is a single plain sash window on each floor, all with similar surrounds and cornices. There is also a set-back range with a square porch in the return angle.

The rear of the house features a near-central three-stage square tower with a round-headed plain sash window on the ground floor, and to the right, there is a single-storey service wing with two windows and a large gable stack.

Inside, the house has a hallway and stairwell with modillion cornices and round arches. The open well cantilever wooden stair has patterned iron balusters and a mahogany handrail. There is a stained glass stair window dated 1850, featuring a monogram, and two simple marble fireplaces.
