Description

The lodge, weighbridge cabin, and boundary walls at Darnall Works were built around 1872, with some alterations made in the 20th century. They were constructed for Sanderson Brothers and are made of brick with stone dressings and hipped slate roofs. The two-storey lodge is positioned end-on to the street and features two rear wall stacks. The front has a single margin light sash window above and a blocked window below, both with panelled lintels. The opposite end has unglazed windows on each floor, with the lower one next to a four-panel door. The entrance side is mostly blank above, with a central round-headed doorway and a window to the right. The windows have segmental heads.

The single-storey weighbridge cabin is also end-on to the street and has a blocked round-headed doorway with a keystone. It features a fielded four-panel door with an overlight facing the lodge, and to its left, there is an unglazed double sash window. The left side of the cabin has an unglazed window. The interior was not inspected. The gateway consists of brick piers with guard stones and stone caps, along with a 20th-century gate. The boundary wall is in an L-shape, approximately 2.5 meters high, with a brick coping. To the left of the lodge, the wall extends about 30 meters, returning along Wilfrid Road for approximately 150 meters to the end of the crucible steel shops, featuring stepped coping. To the right of the lodge, there is another section of the wall, about 30 meters long, with ramped coping. These structures are part of the last remaining large crucible steel works in Sheffield. At the time of the survey, the lodge and cabin were disused.
