Description

Darnall School, now a community association, was built in 1892 by CJ Innocent for the Sheffield School Board. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features gabled and hipped slate roofs adorned with gablet ventilators and decorative ridge tiles. It has two ridge stacks with lozenge-shaped double flues connected by ventilators that have shouldered louvred openings. Designed in the Gothic Revival style, it is simpler than the earlier front range. The school has chamfered eaves and coped gables, and is a single storey with a ten-window range arranged in a T-plan. A projecting cross-wing on the left includes a graduated triple window with shouldered lights and transoms. The center has five shouldered windows, with the leftmost one altered to a door. To the right, a smaller hipped wing features two similar windows and a door. The attached stone boundary wall on the right has triangular rubble coping. The interior has not been inspected.
