Description
No. 1 Northumberland Road is a house, now serving as a university centre, built around 1840, with later alterations from the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped slate roof that has a single ridge and a single rendered stack on one side. It has a plinth, a first-floor band, and renewed wooden eaves. The facade has a recessed center flanked by two shallow projecting bays, each containing a single window on both floors. The house is two storeys high with a three-window range of plain sashes. The central entrance features a wooden doorcase with pilasters and a cornice, along with a half-glazed door and overlight. On either side of the entrance, there is a single sash window. The left return has a single plain sash with a moulded surround and cornice, and below it, there is a canted bay window. To the left, there is a set-back bay with a single window on each floor. The interior has not been inspected.
