Workshop At Darnall Works Approximately 30 Metres South West Of Number 20 (Number 20 Not Included)

The workshop at Darnall Works, located approximately 30 meters south-west of number 20, was built in 1913 for the Kayser Ellison firm. This heat treatment workshop, now functioning as a stock grinding plant, features a steel framed structure with glass and brick infill panels, concrete dressings, and a sheet metal roof topped with two large gabled ventilators. The building has an open roof and a two-storey elevation, arranged in 12 by 6 bays. The brick walls on each floor are situated below continuous multi-pane glazing, which has concrete sills and lintels. The ground floor includes large doorways in the sixth and eleventh bays, while bays one to seven have had their glazing replaced with corrugated iron cladding. The brick gable peaks are adorned with two round openings, and there is a lower flat-roofed single-storey projection at each gable end. The interior has not been inspected. This workshop is part of the last remaining large crucible steel works in Sheffield and is an early example of a steel framed industrial building.
